Grow-cery Mixer Friday!

September 23, 2010, 8:36 pm  |   No Comments »   |  Active Stewardship, Local Food

The predictions are that grocery sales will continue to increase throughout 2010.  As consumers, we have the power to make sure the best ones see the most growth.  It’s our dollars and our purchasing choices that make all the difference.

Spokane has several grocery locations that focus on local, sustainable, healthy and delicious foods and products.   The Rocket Market, Fresh Abundance, Huckleberry’s and latest in the line-up, the downtown Main Market Food Co-op to name a few.  Several of these are not just local stores, but more importantly, are owned locally, so the profits they make stay right here in Spokane and fuel other local purchases and businesses.

These stores all have various events that offer either food education and/or a chance to connect with others in our community.

In fact, this Friday is a unique chance to check out Main Market Co-op if you haven’t already, or if you already like it and just want to enjoy it in a different way.  The co-op Board and staff are hosting an event called Mingle at the Market, from 8-11pm.  Tickets are available through the end of today – make sure you’re one of the 40 to get in the door at 44 W. Main for the great company and local food and wine tastings!

Other store events this weekend…

9/25 – Rocket Market, 7pm live music

9/25 – Huckleberry’s, 2pm Robert Karl wine tasting

9/25 – Fresh Abundance’s sister, p.e.a.c.h. Community Farm, 10am-5pm Harvest Festival in Cheney
